The Masterwork Chorus, the 100-voice chorus known for its annual performances of The Messiah in Carnegie Hall and long history of choral excellence in the area, is creating a choral conducting internship to start in the 2024-2025 concert season.
The ideal candidate will be a student/early-career conductor eager for real-world podium experience with an advanced ensemble and mentorship from the Music Director.
The conducting intern will be a regular singing member of the chorus in their section (dues waived) and be expected to attend Wednesday evening rehearsals in Chatham and performances in December, March, and May. The intern will have regular opportunities to:
- Lead warmups
- Run sectional rehearsals
- Run portions of full rehearsals
- Conduct selected pieces in concerts when possible
- Receive video footage for portfolio building
- Receive regular feedback and lessons from the Music Director
The internship is a full-season appointment that runs from September through May.
Passionate and aspiring conductors with great musicianship and substantial choral singing experience are invited to apply. Keyboard skills, enough to run sectional rehearsals, is a plus.
Interested conductors should send a letter of application to musicdirector@masterwork.org which outlines their goals and choral experience to date by May 15, 2024.
